NBN Co announces Bacchus Marsh as second release site

8 July 2010

NBN Co has announced Bacchus Marsh as one of 19 new locations for the next stage of the National Broadband Network.

This will see Moorabool Shire among one of the first 40 communities in Australia to benefit from high speed internet access delivered through the National Broadband Network.

In April 2009 Lateral Plains and the Centre for eCommerce and Communications were engaged by Moorabool Shire and Multimedia Victoria to review information and communications technologies in the Moorabool region. The Moorabool Community Broadband and Telecommunications Strategy was completed in April 2010 and examined factors such as current services, demand and supply issues and provided recommendations to enhance future information and communications technology access and adoption.

A key goal of the strategy was to support stakeholders in actively advocating and lobbying to achieve an early rollout of the National Broadband Network in the Central Highlands region.

The Centre for eCommerce and Communications are delighted with this announcement and the progress being made in our engagement with Local Governments across the Central Highlands and Wimmera Southern Mallee regions on parallel information and communications technology studies.
