Corangamite CMA Study

20 April 2006

(Extracted from CCMA study Executive Summary)

In reflecting on the opportunities which web-based GIS systems may provide the Research Team has identified that there is an opportunity for the Corangamite CMA to adopt a proactive approach and show leadership in the adoption of web-based GIS systems, not just within the Corangamite region but across all catchment regions.

The Research Team recommended a three-stage approach towards the full implementation of an Online Spatial Data Project with Stage 1 being the immediate deployment of the Corangamite Ground Water Bore Monitoring and Research Database and the Corangamite Erosion and Landslide Database to demonstrate the potential and benefits of further investment in web-based GIS infrastructure and services while also undertaking preliminary steps toward the development of a comprehensive information privacy, security and quality policy.

Multiple benefits will be generated through the implementation of the Online Spatial Data Project. The Corangamite CMA will better meet the information needs of investors, agencies, landholders and other key stakeholders. The authority will also leverage current and emerging technologies to effectively communicate information on local environmental conditions, current areas of intervention and support needs.
