RUN Website Launch

20 March 2012

The Regional Universities Network (RUN) launched their website on the 15 March 2012.

The Chair of RUN, Professor David Battersby, said that the website will provide important information about the network and its activities of interest to government, universities, the media, regional communities, industry and students.

“RUN’s institutions play a key role in Australian higher education. A key objective of the network is to provide advice to government, particularly with regard to tertiary education and regional development,” Professor Battersby said.

“It will also strengthen and promote the contributions of regional universities to regional and national development, and build institutional capacity and sustainability through the sharing of best practice. The website will play a key role in achieving these objectives.”

In launching the website, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland, Professor Jan Thomas, said that the six member universities shared a commitment to playing a transformative role in their regions.

“RUN universities are making a major contribution to the economic growth of the regions through providing higher education to regional students, and through their research and engagement with regional industry and their communities,” Professor Thomas said.

The network was established in October 2011. The foundation members are CQUniversity, Southern Cross University, University of Ballarat, University of New England, University of Southern Queensland and the University of the Sunshine Coast. All have their headquarters outside capital cities.

The RUN website which was developed by CeCC can be accessed at: www.run.edu.au
