Young Farmers for the Wimmera project

31 July 2009

The Department of Planning and Community Development promotes collaboration at the local level to achieve better outcomes for all Victorians. Victoria established Regional Management Forums in 2005 to make it easier for state government departments and local governments to work together.

The Grampians Regional Management Forum comprises senior officers from each state government department and CEOs of councils in the Grampians region. The Grampians Regional Management Forum engages with regional stakeholders to develop an understanding of issues requiring a joined-up response involving state and local government and community agencies working together.

In June 2007, the Grampians Regional Management Forum established a Sustainability Working Group whose focus has been the issue of retaining and attracting young people to the Wimmera. This piece of work has been rebranded as WimmerAlive and a range of activities is being undertaken under the banner of WimmerAlive to address the Business/Entrepreneurship, Education/Training and Social/Recreational needs of young people.
