Yarra Ranges and the broadband economy

15 March 2011

CeCC together with Lateral Plains have been engaged to conduct research for the Yarra Ranges Council which will explore how the ‘broadband economy’ will drive economic and community innovation.

Yarra Ranges Council is seeking to understand how better Information Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure and its usage can lead to greater levels of innovation in the municipality.

The research will:

  1. Assess current broadband services across the municipality
  2. Quantify the level of unmet demand for communications infrastructure and the reasons for this
  3. Identify  assets or inhibitors that impact the supply of best available broadband services across the municipality
  4. Recommend actions that Yarra Ranges Shire can take to enhance future ICT access and adoption.

Research approaches will include undertaking a community survey, collecting case studies and mapping ICT infrastructure and unmet demand.  The study findings will provide important background to the forthcoming Yarra Ranges Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan.
