CECC to Develop Services for Rural Law Online

7 May 2004

CECC has been engaged by the Victoria Law Foundation to establish an internet resource for primary producers, and related services and industry sector organisations called Rural Law Online.

This online service will comprise a number of core components including

  • a detailed legal resource based on the Rural Law Handbook
  • a database referral service;
  • extensive web links;
  • syndicated content; and
  • discussion forums around current legal topics

These initial services can be expanded over time to ensure they continue to effectively meet the information and service needs of rural Victorians.

Rural Law Online will support the goal of increasing accessibility to plain English legal information which impacts on the work and lives of rural Victorians. It will also provide an excellent medium for the ongoing upgrade and expansion of information to reflect constant changes in the law and the creation of whole new areas of law. Sophisticated web-based systems will be required to support the requirements as outlined in the functional specification. The ability to take advantage of new technologies as they emerge is also recognised.

The Rural Law Online project presents an opportunity for the University of Ballarat to share its capabilities and assist the Victoria Law Foundation in effectively implementing this significant rural initiative. Our extensive experience in undertaking similar initiatives will ensure effective completion of the project, build quality into all areas of operation, and make sure that clear and measurable objectives are established to monitor and evaluate the value and benefits generated.
