CeCC to Participate in CeBIT Australia

8 April 2013

In an exciting development, CeBIT have invited the University of Ballarat’s Centre for eCommerce and Communications (CeCC) to facilitate a workshop in May for the Business Intelligence (BI) and Big Data Conference at CeBIT Australia, Sydney.

CeBIT Australia is being touted as the foremost business technology industry gathering for the Asia Pacific region and is the launching pad for some of the latest industry advances. The event comprises a professional show floor and over 450 business and technology exhibits, workshops, service expos and seven specialist business conferences.

Conference organisers invited CeCC to participate in this event following some of the significant project developments that CeCC has achieved through its use of spatial technologies to visualise big data. Of particular interest was the work undertaken for the project’s Visualising Victoria’s Groundwater and the Sport and Recreation Spatial. Both projects represent considerable planning in the effective maintenance and sharing of large data sets for wider audience access and it is this that has led to CeCC’s inclusion in the Business Intelligence (BI) and Big Data Conference program.

CeCC’s Helen Thompson (Director), Andrew MacLeod (Technical Manager, Projects),  and Paul Feely (Senior Programmer) will jointly conduct a 3-hour workshop entitled Spatial Representation and Visualisation of Big Data. The workshop will demonstrate the real-world application of spatial technologies used to support better decision making. Workshop participants will be provided with the practical know-how to effectively ‘consume’ big data using open source spatial technology.

Other organisations that will be presenting a workshop at the CeBIT conference include Macquarie University and NICTA. Prominent key note speakers at the Business Intelligence (BI) and Big Data conference include senior managers and directors from some of the world’s most prestigious financial organisations and businesses, including American Express, Westpac, Westfield, News Limited, the Australian Taxation Office, Macquarie Group, and Quantium.

CeBIT is to be held at Sydney’s Darling Harbour from the 28 – 30 May, 2013.
